Gabriela Gomez
My name is Gabriela Gomez, I was born in Juarez Mexico on March 27, 1973. Because of the many opportunities the United States offers, my family decided to immigrate to improve our quality of life. It was in 1980 at the early age of seven years old when we arrived in Los Angeles, and my sister and I were immediately placed at Graham Elementary School in South Los Angeles. With difficulty, we picked up the English language and blended in with our neighbors and classmates. In 1985, I completed Elementary School and attended Charles Drew Middle School, also in the South Los Angeles Area. Despite the challenges, I graduated Middle School and attended John C. Fremont High School in 1988. I entered high school at a time when racial altercations amongst Latinos and African Americans were at its peak. Faced with the difficulties of the teenage years and High School, I had to separate myself from the temptation from being a participant in racial tension. With all its challenges, I made my parents proud when I walked that long awaited aisle.
In 1996, I completed Medical Assisting classes at the American Career College in Los Angeles with honors. I am also completing General Education classes at El Camino College in Torrance. I have extensive experience in hospital administrative functions, working at St. Mary’s Hospital in Long Beach, California for the past three-years. I left the hospital for better pay and benefits, taking a position with North American Security. In less than three-months, NAS has elevated me to Office Manager. The owners and staff at North American Security are like family and their fast growth is not a fluke. The owners keep their word and they are providing me with the support and encouragement needed to stay my course in college, while carrying the additional responsibility of being a single parent.
